G1.8 Admission of Transfer Students

Effective Date: January 1, 2003
Last Reviewed: January 1, 2003

Transfer credit is given only for three or four credit courses in which the student has received the equivalent of a grade of “C” or better and which are comparable to courses offered at Stonehill College.

A tentative evaluation of transferable courses is made and forwarded to the candidate prior to matriculation. Matriculation by the transfer student is regarded as acceptance of the evaluation of courses for transfer.

Final determination of the applicability of courses in transfer to a major sequence, as well as to fulfillment of General Education requirements, is made by the Assistant Dean for Academic Services in consultation with the appropriate academic departments.

A transfer student must attend the College for at least two years, including the final or senior year, in order to qualify for a Stonehill degree. During this time the student must complete at least 20 courses.

Procedure:

A student wishing to transfer to Stonehill College from another college or university must submit the following items:

1. a completed Common Application, a Stonehill College Supplemental Form for Transfer Applicants, and a $50.00 filing fee. Transfer applications should be filed no later than November 1 for the spring semester and April 1 for the fall semester;

2. an official high school transcript (with SAT I) scores if possible);

3. a complete official transcript from each post-secondary institution which the student attended;

4. a catalogue from each college from which the student is transferring with the student’s name on the front cover and courses taken marked. In order to receive a finalized course evaluation, the transfer student may be asked to submit more detailed course descriptions or syllabi than those appearing in the catalog of the previous institution(s).
