S6.1 Recognition of Student Organizations

Effective Date: June 4, 2019
Last Reviewed: July 26, 2023*

Stonehill College recognizes, appreciates, and supports the contributions made by student organizations to enhance the quality of student life at the College. The process of student organization recognition is vital to provide continued services by monitoring and accurately assessing the status of all student groups. The recognition of student organizations is intended to clarify the rights, privileges, and responsibilities of student organizations.

To be considered an official College-recognized student organization, its purpose must be consistent with the College’s mission, whether it is spiritual, moral, intellectual, cultural, social, athletic, or recreational. No organization, or member acting on behalf of the organization, may encourage or participate in any activity that contravenes the mission of the College.

All student organizations wishing to operate on campus are required to complete the recognition process, which is overseen by the Office of Student Engagement and the Student Government Association. In an effort to support and encourage the faith development of all our students, the Office of Campus Ministry assists in the oversight of all faith-based student organizations. Student groups that have a faith-based mission and purpose must seek approval from the Office of Campus Ministry before starting the recognition process. Faith-based student organizations will be jointly supported and overseen by the Office of Campus Ministry once they have been recognized by the College.

Each year, the Director of Student Engagement will develop and publish the procedures for recognition of student organizations. These procedures may be found on the Student Engagement myHill page.
