A10.8 Submission of Applications for Professional or Academic Program Development

Effective Date: June, 22 2012
Last Reviewed: June, 22 2012

All applications for the purpose of soliciting grants and/or contracts from external agencies must be submitted through the Office of Academic Development. Since such solicitations inevitably require a reallocation of resources by the College and usually demand a restructuring of professional obligations by participating faculty members and staff, the College cannot assume responsibility for proposed or negotiated commitments without the participation of, and consultation with, the Office of Academic Development. This is particularly imperative in the case of the solicitation of grants from United States government agencies, in light of the many regulations with which the College must comply.

Conflict of Interest Policy: In accordance with federal government requirements, the College has adopted a Conflict of Interest Policy Pertaining to Sponsored Projects. All applicants for externally-funded grants, whether from government or private sources, must complete and sign a disclosure form certifying that they do not have a significant financial interest in the project to be funded or in any outcomes of the project. The complete policy and the disclosure form are available for review in the Office of Academic Development, which administers the policy.

Institutional Review Board: The Institutional Review Board (IRB) is an institutionwide committee certified by the US Department of Health and Human Service's Office of Human Research Protections whose job is to protect the rights of human participants in research conducted at the College. Any research involving human participants conducted either at Stonehill College or under its sponsorship at another location must be reviewed and approved by the College's IRB.

Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC): The Stonehill College Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) is mandated by the Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare (OLAW) to provide internal oversight of the Animal Care Program at Stonehill College. The IACUC is responsible for overseeing and evaluating all aspects of animal care and use. It reviews all protocols that involve animals to ensure that the criteria established by the PHS (Public Health Services) Policy on Humane Care and Use of Laboratory Animals and the Animal Welfare Regulations (AWRs) are implemented. Any research involving animals conducted either at Stonehill College or under its sponsorship at another location must be reviewed and approved by the College's IACUC.
