E3.38 Smoking

Effective Date: August 30, 2019
Last Reviewed: August 30, 2019

In accordance with Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 270; Section 22, smoking is prohibited in all public areas of the campus including but not limited to classrooms, building reception areas, dining facilities, lounges, offices, meeting rooms, library stacks, indoor recreation areas, college owned vehicles, waiting rooms, hallways, stairwells, restrooms, and elevators.

If a conflict arises between smokers and non-smokers about when and where someone may smoke, the expressed wishes and needs of the non-smoker will prevail. College community members share in the responsibility for adhering to and enforcing this policy and have the obligation of bringing it to the attention of other constituents (e.g., students, visitors, guests, alumni). If and when appropriate and or necessary Department Heads, Chairpersons, Directors, Residence Life staff, or other managers in charge of a specific area or premises may exercise greater restrictions than those outlined above provided that the increased restrictions are publicly posted (e.g., signage). Appropriate signage should be obtained through the Stonehill College Business Office and must comply with any signage standards established by the College.
